What is a Heat Pump, and how does it work?

A heat pump—also called a mini split or a mini split heat pump—is an exceptionally safe, efficient, and clean heating and air conditioning system that utilizes the process of refrigeration to heat and cool your home. Operating at roughly 1/2 the cost of oil and 1/3 the cost of propane and electric, heat pumps use electricity to turn on and run the motor and fan while the highly-efficient refrigeration process provides the cooling and, in reverse, heating for your home.

Save Money Year-Round!

The most efficient heating & Cooling system

Cold-climate heat pumps deliver heat efficiently and affordably even at very cold temperatures, and work best when maintaining a constant temperature. Unlike older systems, there’s no need to turn your heat pump down at night, and doing so may actually cost you money.

In a typical Maine home, the savings potential is between $300 – $600 per year!*

*Energy cost based on average usage in a typical Maine home. Heating savings assumes oil at $2.73 per gallon, propane at $2.67 per gallon, and electricity at $.16/kWh. Boiler efficiencies are assumed to be 83% – 86%, as determined by the Efficinecy Maine Residential Baseline Study. Heat pump performance is is based on the most popular single unit in Effiency Maine’s HESP Program operated according Effiency Maine’s User Tips.

Cost to heat and cool your home

At about 1/3 the cost of propane and electric, and about 1/2 the cost of oil, high-performance heat pumps can save you hundreds of dollars every year.

The perfect heat pump for the best comfort.

Perfect temperature, perfect humidity, perfectly clean and fresh, just the way we like it. And it’s all happening inside where we work, play, sleep, and truly live.

With Daikin heat pumps, we aim to make the air inside as refreshing as the outside. Better comfort, control, efficiency, and quality so you can create your own unique ecosystem. And every day is perfect, inside and out.

Our personal favorite brand, Daikin systems push more air than others, keeping the temperature consistent throughout the home from ceiling to floor. They are whisper quiet and provide color and style options for the indoor wall units. The multi systems have more BTU capacity, making it easier to add a third indoor head in the future. Daikin RXL and MXL models that we install are rated to -13°F without the use of a pan heater, and will continue to operate down to -32°F at a reduced BTU capacity.

AIR INTELLIGENCE™ built inside

A better understanding of how people inhabit their living spaces has led to products designed to create indoor environments that help use energy more effectively. Heat pumps extract or reject heat from the outside air, even in cold weather. They use an electrically powered compressor and are extremely effective at heating and cooling any house, apartment, business, or workspace! Daikin heat pumps are quiet and discreet, and utilize state-of-the-art technology to keep your energy bills low. With a Daikin heat pump, a large portion of the energy used to heat or cool your home comes from the outside air, a free and infinitely renewable resource.

Energy Efficiency

Daikin products are designed to be highly efficient all year round, and their low energy consumption is reflected in low energy bills for you with our ENERGY STAR® QUALIFIED heat pumps.

Control

Our expertise makes life easier for you, allowing you to control your system via a smartphone app or a user-friendly remote control. WiFi capabilities require an add-on WiFi adaptor.

Comfort

Daikin units are designed to include features that let you create your own unique ecosystem. From the wide angle louver design to the auto-swing and comfortable mode controller settings, effective heating and cooling is ensured throughout the space. They’re whisper quiet and with their specially designed airflow pattern, they create your ideal indoor climate.

Smart inverter technology

Integrated with an inverter variable-speed compressor, Daikin systems deliver the capacity required to maintain desired room conditions, typically reducing energy consumption by up to 30% or more (compared to traditional fixed-speed ducted systems). This technology minimizes temperature fluctuations and provides continuous cooling and heating comfort.

Reliability

Daikin products are renowned for their reliability, and you can count on service to match with industry leading 12 year parts and 1 year labor warranties.

Protection from the Winter’s coldest temperatures.

When the temperature drops, you don’t want to be left in the cold. It’s important to choose a heat pump system rated for the climate you live in. If your system doesn’t operate in severe conditions, your family will be left without any heat at all.

A comfortable home is a happy home. Fujitsu allows for flexible, room-by-room temperature control and energy-efficient heating and cooling for your home.

Fujitsu’s line of mini-split heat pumps come in different sizes, styles, and rated outdoor temperatures. The Extra Low Temperature Heating Series features outdoor condensing units engineered to operate in temperatures down to -15F°, lower than most other heat pumps available today.

Configured For Your Home

Available in numerous mix and match capacities and configurations, there’s a Fujitsu heat pump system for even the most difficult to heat and cool areas. Copper tubing running through a small 3-4 inch opening in the wall easily connects the indoor and outdoor units. Refrigerant is cycled through the lines through the outdoor condensing unit to the indoor unit, distributing heating and cooling to the interior space. The result? Efficient cooling and heating for year round, whole house comfort in most climates.

Energy Efficiency

All systems feature high efficiencies and are ENERGY STAR® QUALIFIED, meaning lower utility bills for home and business owners.

Control

Our expertise makes life easier for you, allowing you to control your system via a smartphone app or a user-friendly remote control. Some Fujitsu models have Wifi built into the indoor unit.

Comfort

A comfortable home is a happy home- that’s why thousands of families choose Fujitsu mini-split heat pump systems for energy efficient heating and cooling for their homes! These sleek units require no duct work and allow for flexible, room-by-room temperature control. Fujitsu heat pumps will keep you and your family comfortable year-round.

Don’t forget to clean your filters!

Your heat pump filters need to be cleaned at least once a month to maintain optimal air quality. You can remove the filters by lifting open the front of your heat pump and gently pulling them out. They can be vacuumed clean or you can shake them off outside to remove the dust.

They also may be washed. Just remember to remove any snap-on filters before washing and allow them to dry before re-inserting into your heat pump. If your filters are left to get covered in dust, this will restrict the air flow to and from your heat pump. The air temperature in your home will struggle to remain constant and your heat pump will have to work harder to maintain your desired temperature. This will result in higher electric costs. So please remember to clean your filters at least once every month.

Keep up with your Annual Fall Cleanings

Heat Pumps need to be cleaned professionally at least once a year for optimal heating and cooling operation and maintaining cost efficiency. It is best to have them cleaned in the fall after AC season to ensure they operate at peak performance through the winter or to clean them before turning them off in seasonal homes. Having your heat pump cleaned every fall will ensure your coil and fan assembly are free and clear of dirt and dust. This will allow your heat pump to maintain efficiency, saving you the most on your heating and cooling bills.

A dirty coil will struggle to provide adequate heating and cooling for your home, resulting in higher electric costs. A clean heat pump will distribute clean and safe air throughout your home at a much lower cost.
